After shooting Mairead & Brian’s engagement shoot back in May, this was a wedding I was really looking forward to. They were really relaxed in front of the camera, and that always nets great images, which bodes well for the wedding, which as I always say is a little easier to deal with, as there’s so much going on, and you expect to be photographed on your wedding day!
And the wedding certainly didn’t disappoint…although you couldn’t say that about the weather on Saturday…July?? it was more like February! Starting with the ceremony in Charlestown church, and a last minute decision to try a remote gallery shot again paid of beautifully. A couple of rain showers afterwards meant we shot all the family groups inside the church after everybody had left – I’ll never shoot the families groups inside the church with all the guests in there, because who really wants to sit there watching the photographer working when they can be heading towards the champagne reception at the hotel!
So after the family formals were finished we headed towards Kilronan Castle, and the reception taking place in the lovely hall next to reception. That area is superb for candid shots at the reception as it’s flooded with natural light coming from the skylights. Needless to say the wind & rain hadn’t abated so we shot all the bridal party photos & shots of Mairead & Brian around various parts of the castle, and we didn’t need to go too far as the inside of the castle is gorgeous for shots. Stepping out of my comfort zone for a couple of the shots, myself & Niall from Complete Weddings (thanks for holding the video light!) got all the stuff we needed and left the couple to chat with family & friends.
After some great speeches, the whole crowd filled the dance floor very quickly, so I’d say a great night was had by all! Enjoy the USA Mairead & Brian…you can’t beat a good road trip!
