Well where to start with last Friday’s wedding? From the top I guess! Firstly I love shooting Ballina weddings, there’s just something about them where I always have a great time at them and the couples seem superb in front of the camera. Elisha & Mark’s wedding last Friday was no different – they’re both from Ballina!
It’s always nice to start shooting the details in the morning when it involves a pair of Manolo Blahnik’s and even nicer when I have something cool to shoot them on like the Torres wine barrel that was in the back garden! The rest of the morning flowed perfectly and we even got lucky with the weather as the showers passed when we were about to go out to the gorgeous garden for some pictures…perfect timing!
On arriving at Ballintubber Abbey at around 12:45, it was strangely quiet around, probably down to the fact the whole pub across the road was full of guests & Mark & the guys! I don’t think they were expecting the bride to be on time, but she was! Onto the gorgeous ceremony, and I think this was one of the nicest ceremonies I’ve had the pleasure of shooting…forgetting the fact it was extremely hard to shoot inside the dark abbey, darker than normal. Sinead Conway & Mark & Elisha’s choice of music was mega. It’s not often you hear modern songs played inside a church as they’re generally frowned upon, but they were certainly allowed on this day! A surprise for me during the ceremony was when Sinead started singing Honey & the Moon, which is what she sang when Sarah (my wife) walked up the aisle for my own wedding…it nearly had me going all over again!!
Again it rained during the ceremony, but when it came to leaving the abbey, it cleared up and allowed the guests to gather & chat outside while the bridal party and myself got some great photographs around the ruins nearby. Shooting alongside on video was Niall & Blane from Complete Weddings, and I had a assistant for the day for a change with Matt helping me out.
Onto Castlebar then and my first time at Breaffy House. Another few photographs taken around the gardens…just in time too as the heaven’s opened and the rain came down…but we got inside just in time! Some great speeches, were followed by the party proper with the Cosmonauts getting the place going, and the dance floor filled up very quickly and was going strong as I packed up to leave!
Stay tuned for a full slideshow from this wedding very soon! But for now, enjoy the preview below, and as always I’d love to hear any comments!
