Details, details, details! Weddings can be full of details for sure, but they’re not what weddings are all about. Weddings are about people & connections…that’s my take on it, and why I tend not to have a bunch of my weddings on wedding blogs anymore, most of those sites place too much emphasis on details, barns etc etc…but enough about that! I still do capture details at a wedding for sure, it’s all part of the day after all.
I was at a workshop at the start of 2015 and one of the presenters, who isn’t into doing a whole lot of detail shots, said that if you’re going to shoot a detail shot, make it the most awesome detail shot ever! That’s resonated with me ever since. Take the shot above, from Trisha & Brady’s wedding last July. My mindset behind this image was simple, I wanted to shoot all the important details in one shot. Trisha’s dress was simply fabulous, and custom made with some amazing detail. Brady’s watch was a gift from Trisha that morning – I’m a watch guy & that brand of watch is just wow & similar to the one I gifted myself when I hit 10 years of shooting weddings!! Then you have the rings! Sometimes I will take shots of the rings on their own, but it’s rare I get a chance with them. So with this shot, while we were doing some portraits near Kilronan Castle, I wanted a shot that showed the dress, watch, rings all in one shot but with the couple connecting also. So we have the details, the connection & the bride & groom all in one shot.
