Orla & Lorcan, Wedding, Rathcormack to Castle Dargan, Co.Sligo
Real emotions in a photograph top everything…whether it’s a genuine moment, or a moment in between getting some relaxed portraits, such as the shot above…it’s something you can’t pose, you can’t ask for…you just have to be ready with a quick finger on the camera shutter button. And to capture a moment such as the portrait of Orla & Lorcan above, I simply found a perfect spot with gorgeous light, a clean background, which just happened to be in front of a lot of their guests who were outside in the glorious sunshine in Castle Dargan. I have absolutely no problem photographing in front of guests, or even having the couple pose for the guests to get some pictures, while I shoot to the side getting images such as this! The guests appreciate getting a chance to get nice pictures of the couple, and the couple get to have fun with their guests! I know I’ll get my 10 minutes to get exactly what I need, but it’s about mixing it up!
I work on my own at weddings. I like to shoot unobtrusively throughout the day & to do this I tend to keep a low-key approach during the day and shoot by myself. But I’m a tall guy, 6″2, but somehow I manage to disappear quite easily even in the open! For example the shot below of the bridal party, partially obscured by Orla’s mum! I have no problem with this either, and it makes for a fun shot! I know mum will take her picture & move on, then I can get mine. But I don’t think she even realised I was around taking pictures of the bridal party…I was in super stealth mode I guess! But again this moment brought out some genuine reactions from the guys & we got some great shots with real emotions!
Congratulations again Orla & Lorcan, & thank you for having me document your wedding in Sligo!
