WEDDING 22ND APRIL MIDFIELD, SWINFORD-KILRONAN CASTLE

Lorraine & Colin, Wedding, Midfield, Co.Mayo to Kilronan Castle, Co.Roscommon

To take what Fr.Noel from Sligo said on Saturday, this was THE wedding to be at in Co.Mayo last Saturday, and yes we also ended up in a castle! Lorraine & Colin were great in front of the camera for their engagement shoot, so I knew they’d be pretty awesome on their wedding day, but you still never really know until you get to the brides house how things will be. As I expected, as soon as I arrived in Lorraine’s house, everything was on time, and everybody was super relaxed. When a bride is keen to get to the church, you know things are running on schedule & that’s always a good thing.

With loads of details to photograph, and the last of the preparations to document, I was kept busy around Lorraine’s home. But as everyone was ready nice & early, we were able to get some relaxed portraits before the gowns went on, and of course after. And with the beautiful surrounding farmland looking fab, we took advantage of that gorgeous backdrop.

Following the bridal portraits, I headed down to the church to capture Colin & the guys & the last of the guests arriving into the beautiful church on the hill, which was immaculately decorated by Micheal Feehily. To be honest, I thought the church looked amazing, but it almost paled in comparison the decor at Kilronan Castle. I’ve seen that ballroom countless times before, but never looking like this…just look at the photos below!

So this is my eleventh year photographing weddings, so it just so happens that last weekend was my exact 10 year anniversary since I shot my first every wedding on my own. And in those 10 years, I’ve waited & waited for a wedding in the Boyle area at this time of year because of the amazing forest nearby that get completely covered in bluebells for a couple of weeks. But alas, it’s never happened! But the stars aligned on Saturday and even though Swinford is nowhere near Boyle, we were headed to Kilronan Castle and had to pass right by this forest, on the best weekend of the year for bluebells! Even though Lorraine & Colin didn’t know about it, they trusted me, and we had 10 minutes or so of some gorgeous relaxed portraits in & around the bluebells!

On arrival at Kilronan, the guests & crowd were already getting lively with some fab music down in the dungeon bar, which continued right up until the bridal party sat for their meal! I didn’t catch the name of the Filipino trio doing the reception music, but they’re were pretty awesome…I’m half Filipino after all!!

Congrats again Lorraine & Colin! And thank you again for trusting me to capture your wedding!
