Clare & James, Wedding, Strandhill to Markree Castle, Co.Sligo
Clare & James’ engagement shoot three days before their wedding was pretty awesome…and I knew their wedding would be much the same! With half their guests coming from the UK, it was great that Sligo, Strandhill & Markree Castle were really showcasing themselves in the glorious August sunshine!
With Clare & James really wanting to maximise their time with their guests, myself & Hayley spent a lot of time on the day documenting everything that happened in front of our cameras, while letting everybody get on with enjoying the day. I think you can see this from the images below, pretty much all smiles & laughter and natural emotions!
For the bridal party, and bride & groom portraits, we stayed inside the newly renovated castle & got some great portraits nice & quickly. When the light is great as it was inside, and the couple & bridal party are nice & relaxed, that’s all that matters!
I first shot at Markree Castle while helping out Steve Rogers in July of 2006, when I was still photographing Formula 1 in the UK, and just testing the waters to see if wedding photography was indeed what I wanted to purse when I finished up with Formula 1 at the end of that year. So the castle has always resonated with me, and I’ve always loved shooting around the place. Sligo was definitely missing a venue when it closed a couple of years ago in order to be sold & renovated. My last wedding there was in 2014. Since then I have done engagement shoots around the grounds & gatehouse, but I had to wait until last weekend before getting inside the renovated castle. And what a fab job that the new owners have done. And there’s so many awesome rooms around the place that will be pretty fantastic for photography at some point!
Congratulations again Clare, James & Archie! And thank you so much for getting your engagement shoot done in the sunshine of Mullaghmore and having myself & Hayley document your wedding!
