Naz & Fergal, Wedding, Ballintubber Abbey to Mount Falcon, Ballina, Co.Mayo
As I get near to having photographed 450 weddings, I can still say that it’s great that I get to photograph new things during a wedding day! For Naz & Fergal’s wedding a couple of weeks ago, that was getting to photograph both a beautiful Catholic wedding in the always mega Ballintubber Abbey, and also an absolutely gorgeous Persian ceremony back at Mount Falcon. So my first Persian Irish wedding to photograph!
On a near perfect March day, myself & Elliot, who was helping me photograph this wedding, started capturing both the bride & groom getting ready at Mount Falcon, floating between both the girls & guys throughout the morning, looking for moments, details & getting some relaxed portraits before making the 45 minute drive to Ballintubber.
I haven’t been to Ballintubber Abbey since 2017, but it’s always nice to be remembered by the local priest there who looks after things. I’ve shot a lot of weddings in Ballintubber since 2007, but only one that was officiated by the local priest because the bride lived around the corner.
As you can tell from the images, Fergal is in the army, and it was great to have the army Chaplin doing the main ceremony as he was nice & relaxed & you could tell from the ceremony that he wanted everyone to enjoy this part of the day. Again I’ve shot a few army weddings over the years, and this ceremony kind of brought me back to 2009 when I shot another army wedding in the same abbey, where both bride & groom were members of the army & we even had Uachtarán na hÉireann, Mary McAleese attend the ceremony.
Following the ceremony, the guard of honour outside, we grabbed a few quick relaxed portraits around the abbey cloisters before heading back to Mount Falcon, where everyone could relax & mingle for a while before heading up to the Knox room for the Persian ceremony part of the day. As mentioned this was a first for me to capture & I absolutely loved documenting it all. The details & colour around the sofreyé aghd (ceremony table) was amazing and the entrance & exit of Naz & Fergal & the bridal party was electric with loud cheering from everybody that was squeezed into the room!
Congrats again Naz & Fergal! It was a pleasure working with you both & everybody through the day! And thanks again for having me document your beautiful Persian/Irish wedding!

Ballintubber Abbey’s history goes back to pre-Christian times, people came from the east through Ballintubber village on their way to the holy mountain on the west coast – now called Croagh Patrick.
When St Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland in c.441AD, he founded a church at Ballintubber. The present Abbey was founded in 1216 by King Cathal O’Conor. It is the only church in Ireland still in daily use that was founded by an Irish king.
Ballintubber Abbey has also become popular with celebrity weddings and in recent years Irish Actor Pierce Brosnan had his wedding in the Abbey and also Westlife Star Shane Filan’s ceremony was held in the beautiful surroundings of Ballintubber Abbey.
Mount Falcon is located in the beautiful West of Ireland, and intimately nestled along the famous Wild Atlantic Way. Mount Falcon is a fairy-tale like setting ideal for your wedding day. So perfect, in fact, that its original conception was born from the love of a young man named Utred Knox who believed his bride was so special, she deserved to live in a castle. Carrying on the tradition of love and perfection, Mount Falcon Estate is a spectacular and charming place for couples to celebrate their very special day, in style.
