Charlissa & Matt, Destination Engagement Shoot, Cong County Mayo
Charlissa & Matt were travelling around Ireland from California last week and were celebrating their wedding anniversary too, so I was honoured to capture some relaxed portraits around Cong in Mayo & it’s surrounds. Cong Abbey & the surrounding forest area is dripping with history & makes for some amazing backgrounds for pictures, and it’s somewhere I love shooting in, but usually with a wedding I’m flying through the locations to get everything done in 2o minutes or so. With Charlissa & Matt, I had the opportunity to photograph them around the area for almost two hours! And with the shoot taking place on the nicest day of the year so far, the light was just getting better & better as we walked around Cong!
Cong, in County Mayo, is a charming village which was once a significant religious centre. One of its most impressive sites is the ruin of Cong Abbey, founded in the 12th century. The village is most famous as the setting for the film ‘The Quiet Man’, which starred John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. The Monk’s Fishing House is located on the former grounds of Cong Abbey. This ingenious structure was built sometime in the 16th century on a platform over the River Cong. A small arched opening allows the river to flow underneath the floor of the building and a trapdoor allowed the monks to drop a net to catch fish…it’s always a great place to get a few portraits of a couple surrounded by water!
Thank you again Charlissa & Matt & congrats again on your anniversary!
