WEDDING 27TH APRIL BALLINA-WESTPORT CO.MAYO

wedding photographer ballinaNicola & Pádraig, Wedding, Ballina Cathedral to Knockranny House Hotel, Westport, Co.Mayo

Another great Ballina wedding!! A couple of weeks ago I made the 50 minute journey to the Mayo town with the River Moy going through it. Like the River Moy estuary, the number of weddings I shoot in Ballina ebbs and flows every year! This year it’s definitely flowing, as I’ve been in the town a few times already and my busy wedding season hasn’t even started yet! Bring on more please!

With a very unwelcome wedding guest having passed over us (Storm Hannah) the night before, Nicola & Pádraig were greeted by sunshine, clouds, rain, wind before the day cleared up beautifully as we made our way to Westport. Having a nice bright home to work in suited me fine, and after the girls were all prep’d & ready, we got some lovely portraits around Nicola’s parents home, before I bolted into town to the Cathedral where I found Pádraig & the guys super relaxed & ready to go! And that’s exactly how the rest of the ceremony went!

When the weather is dodgy and outside the cathedral is typically windy anyway, I’ll always work with the bride & groom to see where they’d prefer to do their family images. After the church is always preferable, but not always possible, so in this case we left them all to Knockranny. But for their own bridal party images, I had already scoped out their preferred location of Belleek Woods earlier that morning, where I found calm conditions, even though it was howling everywhere else. Thankfully Nicola & Pádraig trusted me, and we went & got some beautiful portraits in the sunshine throughout the woods! I had also found a nice patch of bluebells that required a 5 minute walk and again, thankfully the bride & groom were up for it & we made our way into the woods & found what we needed!

After the woods, it was onto Westport for the reception! We got all the family images, and some groups of friends in the bright hallway of Knockranny…light is what I’m always after and Knockranny has a few areas that work well. After documenting some of the fabulous details of the ballroom, the bride & groom made their big entrance & the party began proper!

Congratulations again Nicola & Pádraig, and thanks for having me document your wedding in Ballina & Westport!
