After doing a few quick bridal shots of Andrea & the girls, it was off to Croghan where I met up with the boys and got ready for the brides arrival. With a great ceremony, and Fr.Brian with his amusing homily relaxing everybody, I don’t think anybody realised it had rained at all. However when we left the church it was gorgeous again! After a quick stop off at Lough Key for some relaxed portraits and a walk by the lake, it was time to head to Kilronan Castle for the reception.

With the ballroom & cake looking fabulous it was time for the meal, and speeches with plenty of laughs and a few tears shed also. With the sun setting behind the castle, Stewart and the guys from Transmitter started rocking the place!

Starting in Sligo with a lovely ceremony in the Cathedral with Sinead Conway & Kieran Quinn doing a fantastic job with the music, the sun was shining throughout the morning, albeit with the odd shower, but boy was it windy! Which meant our choice of location for the photo shoot in Belleek Woods was a good choice with plenty of shelter from the wind and lots of open shade and back lit trees, which always means some sweet images! And the woods are right next to Belleek Castle, where the reception was taking place. Arriving before a lot of the guests meant the whole bridal party had plenty of time to relax and chat with the guests when they all got to the castle, while I went to work documenting all the hard work Emer & Mathew put into the banquet room. Deja Groove kicked the party off big style later that evening and the whole dungeon bar was rocking as I made my out of the castle!

For any couples that might be thinking about when to do their engagement shoot, if it’s a sunny day, you cannot beat the light in the summer evenings. It gives a really nice yellow/orange glow and it’s soft so you don’t really have to worry about squinting or harsh shadows like you would during the day. As the evenings get longer, the best time to get started is around 8pm. As the session usually lasts around 1 hour, you’ll then get the sun just before it sets, and that’s when the light is really gorgeous! For something extra special, why not try something completely different & maybe climb Knocknarae, or even splash around at the edge of the sea…I’m always up for trying now shots out!

For this shoot, we headed around the Strandhill headland and the Killaspugbrone Church area, in bright May sunshine! Emer & Mathew were very easy going, and their wedding on Friday should be really relaxed! Stay tuned for images from that next week!

After a few quick bridal portraits in Priscilla’s really colourful garden, & probably the last weekend for cherry blossoms, I headed to the church in loads of time to get some quick shots of Rory & the guys and then document some of the guests arriving. Photographing the ceremony then, again in documentary style, and with Ballyleague church being a little different than most churches (no central aisle and guests sitting either side of the bride & groom) it was great looking at things at different angles and being able to incorporate different parts of the congregation.

Following the ceremony, and escaping the wind, I got the family groups done in super quick time at the side of the church, before the bridal party, myself & video guy Ger Griffen went to nearby Lough Ree for some more relaxed portraits and champagne…and as you can see it was certainly flowing on this day! With most formalities complete, it was off to the Hodson Bay hotel for the reception. Getting the evening properly started wasMilhouse, the wedding band, and they certainly got things rocking from the start!

After a quick spin down the road, Zâna & Shane tied the knot in Grange church, before heading up the road to the gorgeous Harvey’s Point in Donegal. Harvey’s is always nice to work in, and the gardens & lake area are perfect for getting some relaxed portraits done, which is exactly what we did when we arrived. I always say if the reception area has a nice area for pictures, use it, as it’ll give you loads more time to spend relaxing with your guests as you’re never far away and they can usually even see where you are. For sure the pictures are important, I wouldn’t be there otherwise, but the way I work, I’m going to do my part quickly & easily so you can have some time to chill with your guests, which is after all what a wedding is really all about!

Back to Zâna & Shane’s day, and you know it’s nearly summer now, when the speeches start after the meal, and it’s still bright outside! Hopefully the warmth isn’t too far away either!! Not long after the speeches, La Bamba kicked things off and really got the party started! Thanks again Zâna & Shane for having such a relaxed wedding and it was a pleasure working with you both!
