“Looking at your album you made us from 10 years ago today! Who would have thought 10 years ago when the ash cloud stopped flights this week that the flights would be stopped 10 years later on a much greater scale. Thanks for the photos and the memories in our album wonderful to have! Tracy & John”

I just received these words with a short video clip of Tracy & John flicking through their album, from their wedding day, 10 years ago exactly! I can still remember that April day of 2010 – like today it was sunny and nice. I remember the couple telling me there was going to be a bit of a farm theme, and to look out for the bales of hay dressed as bride & groom. I think I was expecting a little bit of hay, not the huge bride & groom I found getting put together on the grounds of Lough Rynn! With John working for a baling company, I still have to this day, not seen a better bride & groom made of bales of hay!!

Looking through the images and pulling a few for this blog post, I find myself saying, that some of these could have been taken last weekend had I had a wedding! That’s how similar my style of photography was 10 years ago, compared with how it is now. I shoot in a way, that whether your wedding was 10 years ago or 10 weeks ago, your images should not look dated. Sure I shoot more now, I definitely shoot a lot more documentary moments of the day, and yes, my relaxed portraits have moved on, but the essence of the images are not dated! And that’s my style.

And the ash cloud Tracy mentioned above, is of course from the Icelandic volcano that erupted in early April that year, and essentially closed all of European airspace, which of course meant some guests including family members not being able to attend the wedding…again I remember during the speeches, they had a live link up via Skype with family! Honeymoons were also out of the question for a few weeks.

What we are all going through now is very different to the ash cloud, but at some point, hopefully we will get back to normality…it will inevitably be a different normality than pre-Covid19 times, but we will get there. Until then, stay safe.

Congrats on your 10 year anniversary Tracy & John! Thanks for letting me share your day again!!
