Molly & Nick, Wedding, Markree Castle
As a Sligo wedding photographer, there’s usually a couple of weddings each year you really remember, for different reasons. Molly & Nick’s was definitely one from 2022! Whether it was the record, for me, 10 bridesmaids Molly had, or the stunning cathedral veil in the Sligo Cathedral, or Molly’s grandfather’s World War 2 Purple Heart medal on her bouquet or the fact Sharon the make-up artist had all the girls plus mother of the bride done an hour before the ceremony…it was probably a combo of all the above, and the absolutely fabulous weather around Markree Castle in mid-August!
I had only met Nick and his future wife to be Molly, a journalist, a few days before the wedding via Zoom, so I rocked up thinking there was a good few bridesmaids but not knowing there was 10! That can be a nightmare in terms of logistics and timing but as mentioned above, both Sharon on make-up and Gemma with hair were absolute troopers and had everybody done really early, earlier than most weddings I’m at! And Molly & her army of bridesmaids were awesome, up for anything with pictures around the castle & coming from the US, the sunshine & heat (for Ireland!!) were no issues!
With Nick & the guys also getting ready in Markree, I was able to float between rooms & capture all the preparations quite easily. Markree is one of the best places to get married in, but also get ready in! And after the ceremony in the Cathedral in Sligo, we headed back to the castle where we grabbed all the relaxed shots in the garden, with yes, the biggest bridal party I’ve ever worked with but again, one of the most fun bunch of guys & girls too! It was the kind of day I could have worked with the bride & groom all day long but I knew that they wanted to get their portraits quite quickly, and get back to their guests who at this stage were pretty much all outside at the outdoor reception!
With a really mixed International group of guests, the party that night kicked off with a wild sparkler tunnel out the back of the castle, followed by the first dance downstairs! You know these guys were up for the night of nights when after only 4 or so songs, Molly grabbed the microphone and start to finish, along with the Nooks band, belted out an amazing rendition of Tina Turner’s Rolling on the River!
Congrats again Molly & Nick! And thank you so much for having me capture your amazing Markree Castle wedding!
