Congratulations Rachel & Emmet!
Castle Leslie is a venue I’ve only been to once before, in 2019 for a stunning wedding. It’s an amazing venue for a wedding but it’s far from Sligo, which is why I don’t tend to take it on a lot of times. For Rachel & Emmet it was time to take it on again, and although it rained, and rained, and rained all the way from Sligo to Monaghan, somehow it cleared up just when we arrived back to the castle after the ceremony and low & behold, we had the most amazing light beaming through the trees surrounding the Castle Leslie estate. You cannot beat the autumnal sunshine in early November.
From leaving Sligo to arriving back to Sligo at around 1am, it was around an 18 hour day! It’s definitely been a while since I put in those kind of hours at a wedding. After almost 600 weddings, I’ve done plenty of long days like that, but it tends to take a few days to recover from them these days!!! 18 hours…it’s still not a patch on the 40 hours straight working while I shot a Le Mans 24 hours race years ago – on race day you get up & shoot all the pre-race bits, then shoot the race (24 hours naturally!) then send all the images back to the office, then head to the airport, fly back to the UK, back home…40 hours straight…oh to be in my 20’s again & be able to handle that…not to mention it’s probably completely illegal to work that long, but in motorsport & motorsport photography, those legalities go out the window!
