REAL WEDDING MOMENTS – CEREMONY MOMENTS

best sligo wedding photographer105When you are a wedding photographer in Sligo, Ireland or wherever it’s the ceremony that’s the important, official part. It’s where the couple will tie the knot, officially become married! Having covered almost 600 weddings, I’ve seen a lot of ceremonies…some formal, some serious, some funny, some super relaxed.

The ceremony regardless of the venue it’s happening in is the one part of the day where I want to disappear and shoot from the sides or wherever I need to be to capture it all, but not be seen. It’s the actual marriage part that should involve the couple and celebrant, not a photographer running around like they are covering a war zone! I learned before I ever shot a wedding back in 2006, that the ceremony is where you really want to be a ninja! Be everywhere, and be nowhere!  And that’s how I approach my ceremonies, be everywhere to capture everything but be nowhere that stands out, I don’t want to be seen!

And by being calm, looking around, I’m always looking for fleeting moments during the ceremony. Some of these moments are bigger, the whole congregation will see them, such as Natalie & Conal above. Other moments, I’m the only one who has seen it, a fleeting glance, such as Jason looking at Michelle a couple of images below – personally one of my favourite images I’ve ever shot in a wedding, the kind of image that will never win an award but that image for me & thankfully Michelle & Jason also, has everything. That image is straight from inspiration I’ve got from workshops I’ve done with the wedding photographer legend Joe Buissink!

Have a peek at a few of my other favourite moments from ceremonies, whether it’s a timely father of the bride glancing at his watch knowing they’re a few minutes late, to an impromptu toilet break during the mass, and again another of my personal favourites of Sharon & her dad watching the bridesmaids as they walked up the aisle, both standing off to the side so nobody could really see them, but I caught them in my peripheral vision & caught the moment!
